I bought a townhouse in Arlington, VA in 2005, and after reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad, I decided to buy another place, become a landlord, and cash in on all that passive income.
Quickly, I realized I didn’t know the first thing about being a landlord from screening tenants …to drawing up a lease… to collecting rent.
I made some mistakes along the way – some of them BAD mistakes (county zoning violations, anyone?) – but I learned a few things as well.
Over the years, I’ve acquired more properties and have picked up a ton of practical knowledge and valuable insights that I wish someone had shared with me when I first started out as a landlord.
